Coffee and Oatmeal Stout
A rich, full-flavoured stout with lifting red berry flavours and a lasting smoothness. Our Coffee and Oatmeal stout is perfect for the long winter evenings!
This classic oatmeal stout is made with oats from Flahavan’s Mills in Kilmacthomas which we infuse with coffee from Badger and Dodo in Fermoy – the annual release generally signifies the beginning of the yuletide season for many.
Working with with Brock Lewin from Badger and Dodo boutique coffee roasters, each year we choose a different coffee to use in the beer. Brock roasts the beans fresh for us and each year chooses a different bean to go into the stout to give a different flavour element to it for each release and advises on preparation of the coffee.
This year, working with Brock again, the coffee we decided to use is filter brewed Ethiopian Ambela -with intense red fruit and blackberry flavours lift the beer while muscovado sugar notes give a rich warmth.
Ideally this stout should be served in the traditional south eastern way which is ‘off the shelf’ — ie. at room temperature.
Food Pairings: This stout can be enjoyed with robust meat dishes and also works great as a dessert beer. It is great to cook or bake with as it doesn’t have the same bitterness as other stouts.
Cheese pairings: Stout and blue cheese is a classic pairing as you need something that will hold up to the strong flavour of the cheese. Also works with smoked hard cheddar and other fuller flavoured cheeses.
